Step 2....Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
12x12 Book, Step 2, page 28, lst sentence.
"Relieved of the alcohol obsession, their lives unaccountably transformed, they came to believe in a Higher Power, and most of them began to talk of God."
I believe in a Higher Power. I chose to call Him God. I came to believe. When, I do not know, but it did happen.
Asking my Higher Power, on a daily basis, to lift the obsession from alcohol, every morning. And this happens on a daily basis. Asking for the knowledge of His will for me, and the strength and courage to carry out His will on a daily basis. And my life has accountably transformed. Not to say, I am completely sane. I have to be honest, I am not. But it is not the insanity of alcohol in my system. But it is still insanity of alcohol-ism.
But it is not the insanity of having another drink, or where to get the next drink. If I believe in God, I believe then that He can restore me to sanity. And that is happening. All I have to do is remember how insane I was, and the insane things I did, and the insane thoughts I had. I am no longer acting that way. I do my best on a daily basis to do God's will, not mine. Which is sane action.
How can I possibly believe in God and not believe that He can restore me to sanity.
I am no longer as insane as I was 2 years ago. Not only has my life transformed unaccountably, I have also transformed unaccountably. And I firmly believe that is God working in my life. Me letting God working in my life.
Yes I believe He can restore me to sanity.

What I am is God's gift to me. What I make of myself is my gift to Him.

Ain't much better than reaping the benefits of a spiritual program. It fills that dark void that wanted to swallow me up when I was drinking.
What I like is my sobriety grows with me as I grow spiritually. This is the greatest gift I have received from the AA program.

"You can, if you wish, make A.A. itself your 'higher power'. Here's a very large group of people who have solved their alcohol problem. In this respect they are certainly a power greater than you, who have not even come close to a solution. Surely you can have faith in them."

Works for me.
When in danger, when in doubt,
Run in circles, scream and shout.

I have to totally agree with Ted on this. This IS the biggest and best thing that AA has given me, also....
