Love ya Vicki, this is so true for me. Not only did I want to stop using, I definitely need to find a new way to live. Today, life is good. Today God is good.

Hi Vicki & Harry,
I like the often mentioned onion- as I remove a layer of personal development area I find another. But like the onion, the areas are largest on the outside and as I work through the layers, what I have to work on becomes smaller...........John

I am glad to be reminded recovery is a process and not an event. It's my belief that growth continues for a lifetime, and so does recovery.
I always liked the onion analogy, John!
I used to think I would get to "it"...and would be done...but recovery is always ongoing. What is neat about that is we keep on being able to have experiences and able to share as we go.
Just some thoughts.

I can't think of anything else that makes more sense to me than that one statement "It's Not An Event, It's A Happening". I am so glad I have had the opportunity to stick around, persevere and look back over the process as it has unfolded.
There is so much comfort in being able to connect the dots and see how one thing lead to another and another in a progressively unfolding fashion. There is comfort in understanding and recognizing the need to go through all of it to be adequately prepared for where I now sit.
I thank God for all the people who pissed me off early on, because it was the only way they could've gotten me to think about what they were saying to me. I would get resentments, sit up all night tossing and replaying the comments over and over again in my head...finally coming to realize that they were absolutely correct.
how absolutely amazing it is to know that I have a disease that affects my thinking and centers in my brain......it is indeed a process. A Happening!

The process idea is wonderful. I found an history of AA in Washington DC from 1936 to 1943. In it was the only recounting of an early AA meeting that I have been able to find so far. In the early days here 3 - 4 people would get up and speak during the course of the meeting. They provided a text of one of the speakers. Guess what? He described the process of staying sober. True yesterday, true today. Whatta program!
