My name is Alicia and I am a greatful Recovered Alcoholic. My sobriety date is May 25,1998.

I first entered the rooms of AA in 1995 and that was only to get friends and family off my back. I had no desire whatsoever to stop drinking.I wanted AA to teach me how to control my drinking,so as to not get into trouble.Having AA thrust in my face,I reacted to it like Dracula would react to a crucifix. I was repelled by the message.Wanted no part of it.

Finally beaten into a state of rasonableness,on May 25th,1998 I crawled back into the rooms of AA.I was tired, lonely and confused (to say the least)I had lost my hustle.More importantly, I was willing to hear the message of hope for the very first time.I was also willing to take the necessary action to recover. And I had an honest desire to stop drinking once and for all.

The 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous saved my life. I have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. I have experienced in my own life the complete pychic and emotional change written about in the Big Book. It is often referred to as a spiritual awakening/experience, by which my values, attitudes, emotions, and even personality are very much different from what they used to be.

I am not the same person I used to be....the alcoholic person.... The obsession that drove me to drink regardless of the circumstances is gone. The fears that ran my life are overcome.I do not react with the same anger I used to have. Mind you, I am not taking credit for this. It is a miracle of God's grace.

I am in NO WAY PERFECT.This is fact, but the extreme emotions and extreme attitudes that punctuated my alcoholic life have left me.What is different about me now is that when I am faced with suffering,a crisis, low spots in my life, alcohol isn't my first thought. My first thought is to go to God for relief. And through regular prayer and meditation and taking action (service work) I re-enforce the fact that God works for me and I don't have to worry about alcohol.

Peace, Love and Sobriety

Hi Alicia,

Your words rang true. Thank-you! today is my first day back. I have been away since leaving re-hab, 1998 I believe. It has been and is a tough rode. You see I've had a control issue that is a bit out of control. I am back to the tried and the true. A power that is greater than me will bring me back to serinity. I was will to do the felloship but the Big Book? And apologize to everybody I ever hurt!? This was an impossibility for me at the time. Now I feel much much differently. I am sick and tired, truley. And I am ready to let go and let God.

Thank-you for your inspiring and much needed note!

Megan

(((((Megan))))) Welcome back and welcome to Journey to Serenity. Sure do hope to see you posting some more. What has helped me, asking for help in the morning, going to meetings, reaching out and letting people know who I am, talking with people, getting phone numbers, getting a sponsor, always asking for help, and thanking for the help I got, Just For Today. Keep coming back Megan, we need you, we love you and we want you. God Bless

Yes indeed welcome welcome welcome! Look forward to reading your posts. Noticed your 1998 date and I'm envious that you're already recovered....pretty impressive.
